Borneo Cultures Museum

With a total of 6,726 square metres of exhibition space, Borneo Cultures Museum is the second largest museum in Southeast Asia. It first opened its doors to the public on 9th March 2022. Visitors are encouraged to pre-book their visits. Entry is limited to 500 pax in the building at a time. Online bookings can be made for morning and afternoon visits, from 1st March 2022 onwards.

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is one of three orangutan rehabilitation centres in Malaysia where you can see semi-wild orang-utans in natural forest. It is one of the most popular attractions in Sarawak and is highly accessible from Kuching.

Sarawak Cultural Village

Experience Sarawak in Half-a-day at Sarawak Cultural Village and learn about the local culture and lifestyles of the various ethnic groups in Sarawak.

At Sarawak Cultural Village, there are replica buildings representing every major ethnic group in Sarawak, mainly the Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu, Penan, Melanau, Malay & Chinese. All buildings are staffed with members of the ethnic groups in traditional costume and carrying out traditional activities. The staffs act as storytellers who describe and interpret our way of life.

Sarawak Laksa

It is one of the unique signature dishes of Kuching, the broth has the perfect blend of spiciness, herbs, and tanginess blended with the light creamy taste of coconut milk.

Mee Kolo/Kolok Mee

Mee Kolo or Kolok Mee is a Malaysian dish of dry noodles tossed in a savoury meat and shallot mixture, topped off with fragrant fried onions originating from the state of Sarawak. Mee kolo is a Sarawakian favourite, and is served any time of the day for breakfast, lunch, or supper!

Midin Belacan

Midin is a wild fern that grows in the jungles of Sarawak. It has a crunchy texture and is one of the most popular vegetables in the state. Midin can be eaten as part of a local salad (Kerabu) or stir-fried with shrimp paste (Belacan) and chilis. Some versions of the latter also include fried anchovies or salted fish to add another layer of flavour to this humble dish.

Seafood

A few of the prominent seafood restaurants in Kuching are namely Rock Road Seafood Restaurant and Top Spot Food Court where you can enjoy a fresh and wide variety of seafood delicacies as well as Sarawak’s local delicacies.

Mee Belacan/Bihun Belacan

Mee Belacan is a dish that locals would eat usually during tea time, with a bowl of Ais Kacang. Mee Belacan consists of mee hoon which is soaked in plain water to soften it beforehand and its broth is then added together with sliced cucumbers, Sambal, and sliced squid. Its specialty is that you can eat a century egg which is called ‘Telur Padi’ in Malay.
